September Is Here. Did You Put Yourself on the Calendar?

Thursday, September 3, 2026

Hi, sis! 👋🏾 September is here: and somehow, the year is already moving into its final stretch.

You may still be wondering where the time went. One minute, you were setting January goals. Then came spring schedules, summer travel, work deadlines, family celebrations, and all the little responsibilities that do not always make it onto a formal list but still require your attention.

Now the calendar is filling up again.

There are school schedules to coordinate, senior-year responsibilities to think through, football season, business goals, client needs, meetings, birthdays, family obligations, upcoming holidays, and the everyday details that keep your household and relationships moving.

You are capable. You are organized. You know how to handle what needs to be handled.

But let’s be real: when you look at your calendar, where do you appear?

The Calendar Tells the Truth

Your calendar may be full of reminders for everyone else:

  • Work presentations and project deadlines
  • Children’s activities and school events
  • Senior pictures, college visits, or graduation planning
  • Football games and weekend commitments
  • Appointments for family members
  • Business networking and community responsibilities
  • Birthdays, anniversaries, and holiday preparations
  • Errands, household tasks, and relationship time

All of those things may matter. Many of them may be meaningful. This is not about pretending your responsibilities are unimportant or walking away from the people you love.

It is about noticing whether your own rest, joy, relationships, goals, and experiences have been treated as optional.

Because if everything important to you is written down except you, the calendar is not showing the complete picture.

You Do Not Need Permission to Make Room for Yourself

Many women are used to being the ones who create the plan. You make the reservations, confirm the details, remember the deadlines, send the reminders, and keep things from falling through the cracks.

That strength is real. So is the risk of becoming so dependable to everyone else that you keep postponing your own plans.

You may tell yourself:

  • “I’ll schedule something after this project.”
  • “Let me get the kids settled first.”
  • “I’ll think about travel once football season is over.”
  • “The holidays are coming, so maybe next year.”
  • “I need to see what everyone else is doing before I make my plans.”

But here is the truth: there will almost always be another responsibility waiting.

That does not mean you should ignore your responsibilities. It means you should stop assuming your life has to become completely quiet before you are allowed to enjoy it.

A full life can still include space for you.

Start With a Calendar Check-In

You do not need to redesign your entire life this week. Start with a simple September check-in.

Take 15 minutes and look at the month as it actually exists. Then ask yourself:

  1. What is already committed?
Identify work, family, school, business, and social obligations that are already scheduled.
  2. What am I looking forward to?
Look beyond responsibilities. Is there anything on the calendar that brings you genuine anticipation?
  3. What have I been postponing?
Maybe it is a trip, dinner with a friend, a date night, a creative project, a fitness goal, or simply an uninterrupted afternoon.
  4. What deserves a place before the month fills up?
Choose one or two things that support the woman you are: not only the roles you fulfill.
  5. What can I schedule now instead of hoping it happens later?
Hope is lovely. A date, time, and plan are much more useful.

This exercise is not about cramming more into your schedule. It is about making your priorities visible.

Make Room for What Gives Your Life Meaning

Personal time does not have to look the same for every woman.

For you, it might be a quiet morning with coffee and a book. It might be dinner with a friend who knows the whole story. It might be quality time with your partner without discussing logistics. It might be a weekend away, a cultural experience, or a destination you have been talking about for years.

It could also be a trip with women who understand this season of life: women who want to laugh, explore, rest, dress up, try something new, and make memories without waiting for a perfect moment.

Travel is not a replacement for your responsibilities. It is one intentional way to make room for connection, celebration, rest, and experiences that matter to you.

And you do not have to wait until every person in your life is available to begin thinking about it.

Put Yourself on the Calendar in a Practical Way

If adding personal time feels unfamiliar, make it concrete.

Try these simple steps:

  • Choose a realistic frequency. Start with one protected block each week or one meaningful experience each month.
  • Name the activity clearly. “Personal time” is easy to give away. “Dinner with Maya” or “Travel planning hour” is more specific.
  • Protect the time like a professional commitment. If you would not casually cancel a client meeting, think carefully before canceling on yourself.
  • Tell the people who need to know. Communicating your plans early helps everyone adjust and reduces last-minute confusion.
  • Leave room for flexibility. Making space for yourself does not require perfection. If something changes, reschedule instead of deleting the plan.
  • Let small plans lead to bigger ones. A coffee date, local staycation, or weekend getaway can help you practice prioritizing your own experiences.

The goal is not to create another rigid system to manage. The goal is to build a life where your plans are considered alongside everyone else’s.

Your Future Self Needs an Invitation

September is a natural time to pause and take inventory. The routines of the year are becoming clearer, but there is still time to make thoughtful choices before the final months move even faster.

So, what would change if you treated your own plans as worthy of advance notice?

Perhaps you would begin saving for a birthday getaway. Maybe you would look at dates for an anniversary trip. Maybe you would finally talk with your girlfriends about a destination instead of saying, “We really need to do that sometime.”

“Sometime” is a beautiful idea, but it is not a date.

For now, begin with one honest question:

What have I been saying I want to do, and where can I place it on my calendar?

This is the first conversation in our September series, “Don’t Lose Yourself in the Busy.” Over the next few weeks, we will talk about taking a break before everything calms down, giving the trip you keep discussing an actual timeframe, and recognizing how different kinds of travel can support different parts of your life.

For today, simply make yourself visible.

If the experience you have been postponing is travel, let Explore Blue Travel help you turn the idea into a thoughtful, well-planned possibility. Complete the EASE Travel Form, and let’s begin exploring what could have a place on your calendar next.
